Asian Handicap, BTTS & Corners — Football Markets Beyond Match Winner

September 2, 2026

Go beyond match winner betting. Learn how Asian Handicap, BTTS, and Corners markets work in football, with worked examples for each.

The football betting market is easy on paper, but it is also important to understand how each of these markets works. While the moneyline is the easiest market to bet on, there are other entertaining markets that give you a higher chance of winning your bets.

These markets include Handicap, Both Teams To Score (BTTS) and Corner. In this piece, we will explain how each market works and how you can place your bets on them at Housebets.

Remember, Housebets remains the home of football betting this new season. To place your bets on this weekend's football games, log in to your account (or create one if you don't already have one), deposit your preferred cryptocurrency, then go to the sports section to bet on your selected matches.

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting is a situation where one team is given at least a goal advantage because the player/team is playing a far superior opponent expected to win.

It is simple. In sports betting, there is always the favourite and the underdog. But the issue is that the favourite always has a higher chance of winning, meaning the odds given to the favourite winning are super low most times.

However, to level the playing field, knowing smart bettors will likely not put big money on super-low odds, online sportsbooks like Housebets offer the option to give the underdog a goal.

Let’s use a practical example, using the same teams playing this weekend.

Valencia (8.80) vs Barcelona (1.29)

Valencia face Barcelona this weekend, with the Catalan giants priced at 1.29 to win the game on Saturday. However, a bettor knowing Barcelona would likely win by a two-goal margin could take the option of giving Valencia a goal ahead before the ball is kicked and still back Barcelona to win.

This means for the bettor to win his bet, Barcelona has to win by a two-goal margin – 2-0, 3-1, or 4-2.

If Barcelona wins by a goal margin, the bettor will lose the bet because he/she had already given Valencia a goal lead before the ball was kicked.

Although the result says Barcelona won by a goal margin, the bet would count it as a draw because Valencia was given a goal ahead.

However, it’s important to note that because you gave Valencia a goal ahead, you would get higher odds for Barcelona to win by a two-goal margin instead of the 1.29 odds you would have gotten if you had placed a moneyline bet on them.

Meanwhile, you should also note that it works the other way if you back Valencia. For example, Valencia have been given 8.80 odds to win the game normally, but giving them a goal ahead will see the odds reduce to 2.68.

However, the difference is just that all you need to win the bet is for Valencia to avoid a defeat, meaning any form of draw (1-1, 2-2, 3-3...) is enough.

Even though the final result is a draw, it is a winning bet for you because you gave Valencia a goal lead before kickoff.

Types of Handicap Betting

There are two major types of Handicap betting: European Handicap and Asian Handicap.

European Handicap: The European handicap has a three-way result, just like the three-way outcome when betting on the moneyline in football.

For example, Real Madrid are priced at 1.37 to beat Betis, with a draw pegged at 5.57 and Betis given 7.20 to cause an upset.

Under the European Handicap Market, Real Madrid (-1) means Real Madrid to win by a two-goal margin, while draw (-1) means Real Madrid to win by a one-goal margin, and Real Betis (+1) means a draw or Betis win.

Asian Handicap: The Asian Handicap, unlike the European Handicap, eliminates the draw option, and it is mainly decimal.

Eg: For example, Real Madrid are priced at 1.37 to beat Betis, with a draw pegged at 5.57 and Betis given 7.20 to cause an upset.

The handicap market under the Asian Handicap will look like Real Madrid (-1.5) and Real Betis (1.5).

Real Madrid (-1.5) means Real Madrid has to win by at least a two-goal margin. Anything other than that outcome means you lose the bet.

In contrast, Real Betis (1.5) means they must not lose by two goals, meaning a defeat by a goal margin or any draw will see you win your bet.

Both Teams To Score – BTTS

A 'Both Teams To Score' bet happens when you place a bet on two teams playing each other to score in a football game. The final result does not have anything to do with the bet itself because you are only betting on the two teams to score.

For example, if Man Utd beat Man City 4-1 in a game, and you bet on BTTS, you will win the bet because both teams scored in the game, even though Man City lost.

In other words, a BTTS bet means you are betting on both teams to score at least once in a particular game.

How do you bet on BTTS?

Betting on BTTS at Housebets is very easy. All you need to do is log in to your account and deposit your preferred cryptocurrency to fund your bets.

Afterwards, go to the sports section on the site and select football. Choose a particular game you want to bet on and scroll down to the Both Teams To Score option and select Yes.

It is important to note that there are only two options in the Both Teams To Score market. You either tick 'Yes' or 'No'.

If you tick Yes, it means you are backing the two teams to score at least one goal. If you tick no, it means you are saying one team will not score at least one goal.

Advantages of BTTS

  • A BTTS bet is simple and easy to bet on because you are just backing the two teams to score at least one goal.
  • A BTTS bet does not rely on the final result. In fact, you can win your bet ten minutes into a football match if both teams score inside the first ten minutes.
  • A BTTS bet is easy to win if the two teams playing have good attacking qualities and are evenly matched.

Best BTTS TIPS

  • Research: Like any other market, it is important that you do your research before placing your BTTS bets. Ensure you look at the two teams' recent form and their squad list before placing your bets. If a team is missing one or two star players, a BTTS bet might not be the best bet for the game.
  • Head-to-Head: Taking a look at their head-to-head record will give you an idea of what to expect in the game.
  • Team Strength: While two teams might be evenly matched, a BTTS bet may not be the best if they are not known for their attacking style.
  • Game Importance: If it is a very important game with everything at stake, you need to carefully consider the teams playing before placing a BTTS bet.
  • Weather Condition: The weather plays an important role in the outcome of a football game, since most stadiums do not have a roof. Even if the teams involved are known for their attacking style, it is still important to consider the weather because it may affect the two teams' playing style.

Corner Betting

Corner betting, as the name suggests, is simply betting strictly on corners in a particular football match.

This is not really different from betting on goals, but you are betting strictly on corners here instead of goals.

However, for corners, the result of the match does not really matter because it has no effect on the bet. There are different options in corner betting, though.

Types of Corner Betting

Corner Moneyline

This is similar to betting on the outcome of a match. However, here you are betting on which team will play the most corners instead of the result of the match.

Eg: In Liverpool’s game against Ipswich Town, you can bet on Liverpool to play more corners than Ipswich. Should Liverpool play more corners than Ipswich in the match, you will win the bet irrespective of the result of the game.

Over/Under

Betting on over/under in the corner market is no different from the over/under betting in the goal market, but you are strictly betting on corners and not goals.

For example, if you bet on over 7.5 corners in a particular match, it means you are betting on at least eight corners to be played in the match. If they play seven corners, you will lose the bet. Meanwhile, you can also bet on the under in corner betting. E.g., if you bet on under 7.5, you are betting on a maximum of seven corners to be played in the match.

If there are over seven corners in the match, you will lose the bet. Over/Under corner betting is also known as 'corner totals'.

First/Last Corner

This type of corner betting is like rolling the dice. Here, you are betting on which team will play the first corner of the game.

Eg: In the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Coventry City, you can bet on Coventry to play the first corner of the game or back Man City to play the last corner of the game.

In this type of corner betting, stats do not really play a major role, which is why there is not too much difference in odds.

Team Corner Totals

This is also like betting on the number of goals a team will score, but you are betting on corners strictly here. EG: You can bet on Manchester City to play over 4.5 corners against Coventry, meaning you are backing Manchester City to play at least five corners.

If Man City play fewer than five corners, you will lose your bet. However, if Man City play more than five corners, you will win your bet irrespective of the number of corners played in the match.

You can also decide to bet strictly on one half, meaning you can bet on Man City to play over 3.5 corners in the first half. This means you are backing Man City to play over three corners in the first half alone. Anything other than that will see you lose your bet, even if they play over three corners in the whole game.

However, you will win your bet if Man City play at least four corners in the first half, even if they do not play any other corners in the second half.

Corner Range

This may look like the total market, but it is not. Here, you are simply betting on a particular team to play corners, but within a certain number.

For example, you can bet on Man City to play between 3-4 corners against Coventry. Your bet here simply means that you are betting on Manchester City to play a minimum of three corners and a maximum of four corners, meaning anything less than three and anything over four corners will see you lose the bet.

It’s important to note that odds differ for each range. For example, the odds for 3-4 corners will likely be lower than 0-2 corners.

However, you should also know that corner range has a minimum number but no maximum number.

EG: You can bet on Coventry to play at least seven corners against Manchester City without worrying about anything else.

This is different from the total market because the corner total market has a .5 decimal threshold.

Corner Betting Tips

There are so many factors that determine if there will be a lot of corners in the game.

  • Firstly, you have to do your research on both teams. Check their previous games and see the number of corners they played. Also, look at their style of football. If they are a possession-based team, there are likely to be few corners. However, if it’s a possession-based team playing against an underdog known for sitting deep, there will likely be a lot of corners.
  • After doing your research, look at the weather conditions and state of the pitch. If it does not favour a smooth-passing game, there are likely to be corners.
  • Look at the matchups on the two wide areas of the pitch. It’s important to know the wingers on both teams. If both teams have inverted wingers, corners are likely to be few in the game. However, if they have direct wingers, there is a possibility of a high number of corners.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Corner Betting

One of the advantages of corner betting is that the main result of the game has no impact on your bet. It also allows you to bet more on the underdog, giving you more valuable odds.

However, the disadvantage of corner betting is that it is a little bit harder to predict compared to the moneyline market.
